The Latrobe Valley 4WD Club Inc was formed in 1978 by Tony Kerkenaar and Jeff Lake. Both of the two founding members are now life members of the club. Over the last 25 years members have been drawn from all parts of Victoria, from Heyfield to Werribee, Yarram to Warragul, and, of course, many members living in the Latrobe Valley.

Club trips range in difficulty. Some trips cater to those who enjoy a relaxing day out in the bush, visiting scenic destinations and stopping to smell the “bush roses”. Other trips are more for the adventure inclined, with difficult, exhilarating tracks to wake up the adrenaline in you. Club trips go far and wide across our beautiful country, ranging from one-day trips, weekenders, or even extended holidays for the longer trips. Some of the places that have been visited are:

s      High Country Huts

s      Wonnangatta

s      Dargo High Plains

s      Grant-Talbotville

s      Little Desert

s      Tasmania

s      Simpson Desert

s      Davies Plain

s      Canning Stock Route

s      Haunted Stream

s      Cape York

s      Chromite Mine

s      Bunyip State Forest

s      The Dog Fence

Visitors are welcome to participate in two trips before joining the club. All members are encouraged to run trips according to their own skill levels and preferences.

New and existing members can participate in 4WD Driver Training, led by qualified instructors (through Four Wheel Drive Victoria’s Driver Training Unit) who are part of the club. 4WD Driver Training consists of one theory night followed by a practical day out in your own vehicle. Training can range from simple 4WD techniques for the beginner driver to the advanced 4WDing needed for some of the more difficult trips.

Each year a fantastic Christmas party is held, where everyone can get together to celebrate the year gone by in 4WDing and relax as part of a friendly club. The Christmas party usually combines camping, 4WD trips, fantastic food cooked out bush and, of course, social activity with plenty of laughter!

The Latrobe Valley 4WD Club Inc meets on the first Tuesday of each month (except January during the holidays) at 7.30pm . Visitors are always more than welcome to come to a meeting to see what the club is about, meet some current members and enjoy supper and a chat afterwards.
